Taco Mex (Austin, TX)

Talk about low-profile. At Taco Mex (formerly Taqueria Alayna’s), a tiny window sandwiched between a laundromat and a convenience store, the more than modest digs don’t do a good job of selling the simple but tasty tacos they serve. One would expect to grab-and-go here, but it often takes a couple more minutes that you hope, which explains the freshness of the food and the care put into each order.

RECS: The beans and eggs taco is one of the best in Austin. For meat-eaters, you’ll usually find me recommending pork or beef, but at Taco Mex the chicken fajita stands out from the rest.
