Another restaurant I never miss when I’m in Portland is Pok Pok. For several years it has populated the upper echelon of all the top food lists in town, and rightly so. The jury is still out on whether it’s even possible for someone to leave this restaurant less-than-ecstatic about their meal (what you might be unhappy with, however, is the long wait times at peak hours). Make this place a priority in any culinary tour.
RECS: Anything and everything. The Pok Pok Special on their to-go menu is one of my favorite all-around meals. It’s comprised of their signature dish, Kai Yaang (roasted game hen), sticky rice, and the spiciest green papaya salad anywhere on the planet (trust me, not an exaggeration). The thai iced tea is also very authentic (which means that it was far too sweet for my taste, but maybe not for yours).
