Ping (Portland, OR)

Don’t make me describe the food at Ping, one of the best restaurants to open in Portland in 2009. If I had to give it a label, I guess I would call it “Chinese-meets-yakitori, Thai-style.” The flavor combinations are too thrilling and complex to reduce them to words, so I’ll just say that Ping demands a firsthand experience. NOTE: happy hour comes with reduced prices on a small menu of items, and can be a good way to go if you’re on a budget.

RECS: You’ll have a hard time choosing from this vast, everything’s-fantastic menu and I’m not sure I can help you narrow the choices. Two memorable dishes are the Miang Kham and spicy octopus skewers, but follow your instinct in selecting what sounds good.
