This one-dish wonder competes with a select group of food carts for the best in Portland… and comes out victorious! Nong’s version of chicken and rice is undoubtedly the best I’ve tasted anywhere. Unlike the dry rice and cardboard chicken you find at other carts, each order of Khao Man Gai is made fresh on the spot and you can watch the cooks pulling boiled chicken right off the bones and laying it on top of moist chicken-broth rice. Throw on some housemade soy bean sauce and alternate each bite with a sip of the Chinese winter squash soup that comes on the side. It’s the ultimate street food experience.
RECS: There’s only one dish! Vegetarians and vegans will have to relax the rules to get their taste, but every bite of every flavor is so good, you won’t be sorry. (If you leave off the sauce, the meal is gluten-free too!)
