One of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops in Austin, Cherrywood also happens to have a few hidden gems on their food menu. The recently-added tortilla soup speical is top tier, and as far as I know, they’re one of the few local establishments to offer pulled pork tacos (a bit on the dry side, but still tasty). But the reason to choose Cherrywood over, say, the always-crowded hipster-fave Thunderbird Coffee nearby, is their low-key atmosphere and excess of space—indoor and outdoor—that encourages the slow enjoyment of food or beverage. Speaking of beverages, their coffee gets the job done, but they’re no slouch in the beer department either, offering a decent selection of a dozen local and imported varieties. If you’re meeting a friend or just looking for somewhere to study til midnight, head on over.
RECS: Tortilla soup if available (vegetarian or chicken), pulled pork taco plate, draft beer.
