Plainly said, there’s really no reason to go to Café Mangu… besides their food. With an utterly random location just off I-35 in Pflugerville (an Austin commuter town) and a design scheme that makes it look like a pint-size TGI Friday’s, you might instinctively say “takeout” when they ask where you’d like to sit. But the food would be cold by the time you drive somewhere else, so just take the plunge and grab a table. Everything is made fresh, so don’t come in too much of a hurry (i.e. be sure to bring a friend, or a really absorbing book). Once your meal arrives though, nothing else will matter.
RECS: I’m sure it’s all good, but I’d rank the pork lechon asado—with rice, beans and plantains (and ask for a side of mojo sauce)—as one of my favorite dishes in the greater Austin area.
