Yet another Mexican food standout, but what most distinguishes La Cocina de Conseulo is probably the strangest operating hours of any restaurant in Austin. They serve dinner four days a week—always with a three hour break in the afternoon—and for no apparent reason they close completely on Saturdays. Once you manage to get inside, however, you’ll find beloved breakfast burritos with homemade tortillas (more like giant tacos really), a variety of entree plates and daily specials. With scant seating available, you may want to order takeout, but the outstanding chips and salsa are a compelling reason to stick around.
RECS: Any of the breakfast items (arrive before 11am for the burritos). At dinnertime, the salmon enchiladas are great, if they’re on the menu that night. For something meaty, try the beef fajita tacos.
