Philly is known for the cheese steak. Chicago has deep dish. Most Americans think of barbecue when they hear Texas, but the real hidden gem here is breakfast tacos. Austin has truly mastered the art—though they basically don’t exist anywhere else (why?!!!)—and no visitor should leave the city without trying a few. You can find them just about everywhere in this town, but don’t settle for just anything. After many months of extensive research, I’ve compiled a list of the best of the best (follow the links for individual reviews). Each of these restaurants or taco trucks offers their own tasty version, making it too hard to rank them. If you’re pressed for time, go wherever is closest, or just throw caution to the wind and eat breakfast tacos for all three meals of the day. I’ve certainly been known to do it from time to time.
